A successful planning application for a 4 storey apartment block on the site of a protected Victorian school in Dublin city, including conservation and conversion to apartments within the school building.

This project added a lot of value to this derelict site, while maintaining the integrity of the Victorian facades.

Currently in the Design Stage, this project has a challenging site with a steep slope.

Elevations and building form will change, but overall style will remain consistent with Traditional Vernacular.

Internal floor plans reflect the clients’ “Way of Living” and preferred flow.

These images show the process of analysing the facade of a home. We survey, understand the original Architect's intent, derive the correct proportions to move forward with. This allows an extension to visually sit comfortably against the existing building.

The designs feature a single main concept. The compact size of the store allow this concept to amplify itself . These stores are intended to be temporary art installations in line with each brand's identity.

The designs are simple with the aim of being affordable. They are fast and easy to install in a single day....but pack a punch!

Render and Glass

The light wall or "clausta wall" is inspired by similar passive design techniques used in Cambodia. Although our climate is different, an added layer of glass allows the air and light to be controlled. It creates a dappled light effect.

Zinc Exterior & Enamel Interior

The enamel enclosure is inspired by the material used throughout the household during the last century. It is a timeless material. It can take any form. The green colour unites the exterior and interior.

The golden section or fibonacci series was used to work out the proportions of this contemporary wooden lined zinc box. This is the "safe" version, something that will get planning easily, and is seen as acceptable modernism. A lovely space too.

My role was Project Architect for this project. The project was lead and designed by Robin Mallalieu.

“A saw tooth building clad in black zinc is the new entrance building to the large Murphy Group Headquarters. The building includes the main reception, board room, meeting and exhibition spaces. A colonnade frames a planted entrance courtyard which sets a contrasting tone to the tougher builders yard beyond. Inside a large, near two storey high, tapestry commissioned by the client hangs in the reception space. The saw tooth cross section of the building allows natural light to permeate the deep plan and makes visual connections with the industrial architecture across the rest of the site. The building was designed to achieve BREEAM Excellent and formed part of a wider masterplans for the whole site which Brady Mallalieu Architects are designing.”

Concept: Light filled, airy and green space.

Location: Coventry, UK.

A dreary and dark office space is to be transformed.

How?

-We created two balconies to create connection to the street below.

-We exposed the concrete ceiling to lift the Floor to Ceiling Height. Mechanical equipment is beneath the floor, freeing up the ceiling plane, avoiding an over-crowded ceiling.

-Comfortable break-out spaces and a standing data-bar offers clients multiple ways of working and collaborating.

-Natural materials were used; walnut floor, exposed brick, brass table tops.

Our clients are very happy!

A design for a holiday home extension in the sea side town of Enniscrone, County Sligo. This client asked for a charred wood “black-box” extension to create a better kitchen and master suite upstairs.

The kitchen has two new dining spaces, a kitchen island, full height cupboards, and bi-fold or sliding doors to an outdoor dining area.

The first floor master-suite now has a seating area that benefits from ocean views and aspect over rolling green fields.
